Welcome to the first issue of lovegeek, i love technology .Its been a long, hard, technically challenging road to get this up, but were glad where it has taken us. This issue we are joined by a stack of talented artists who have opened up to us about their creative practices, nerdy habits and their favourite things to do on the World Wide Web.
Between issues you can also keep track of our
blog, constantly updated with geeky information about whats happening, what we think should be happening more and handy tips on how to survive The Apocalypse (just The Apocalypse, not The Vampire Apocalypse, sorry folks! We dont even have access to that kind of information). And join our
facebook group for updates!
And in line with the UGC nature of the intrawebs, we are leaving it up to you lovely people to decide the theme for the next issue! Yay! So hit us with your radtastic ideas at info@lovegeekzine.net
A BIG Thank You to everyone involved in making this issue possible. Especially the awesome peeps at Square One and in particular Shakthi, Elias and Peter Petrelli, you guys are my heroes.
Co-run between
CuriousWorks and
sQuareOne, piXelsQuared is an annual digital media and community development skills training program. The lovegeek site was made over six months of training at Sydneys Square One art space in Ultimo. With access to Macs and tech dudes, my Saturdays have been littered with web coding, calling out to artists and basically learning an entire new trade. The result is what you see, with the design help of Dice and the tech skills of Pete. It was a great chance for me to meet other kids doing great stuff, and it inspired me to just get out there and make something, no matter how under resourced I appeared to be. There is more information about how to apply for the program
here. But for now, we hope you enjoy our i love technology issue,
Lots and lots of love,
Dice, Pete and Mads @ lovegeek xxxxx
