Rebecca Newman

Where are you located?

North Fitzroy, Melbourne.

What do you do?

I’m a photographer.

What do you love?

Meeting incredible people with great stories to tell and stumbling across amazing locations to shoot. It’s also pretty exciting going on a photography road trip and finding a whole new world of exciting things to photograph.

How did your love for photography evolve?

It’s going to sound tacky, everyone always says when they got their first camera or traveled overseas, and I guess mine was both of those. I’d always loved taking photos and had resisted the thought of pursuing it as a career, when I thought, dammit I don’t want to be 50 years old sitting in an office wondering whether I could have been a photographer.

What developments are you working on now?

I have a couple of ongoing series that I’m working on; location work,
large format portraits, promo shots and stills for an upcoming animation.

The most exciting thing planned is a trip to Argentina next year to document the contrasting living conditions and how this affects the people and the landscape.
