Interview with Eugenia Lim, Artist.Who Are you?Eugenia Lim, artist.
Where are you located?At the moment in Barcelona, Spain. But very soon back to wintery Melbourne, Australia.
What do you do?I make videos, photography and installation-y work that centres on
themes of identity, culture and stereotypes. I am a member of
TapeProjects, a collective of artists dedicated to showcasing experimental screen, sound and interdisciplinary work. We host monthly artist talks where punters can hang and share beer with interesting people doing
interesting things.
I am also a member of Outpost, an affiliate of Share NY.
Outpost brings together sound and video artists in monthly live 'jams' - nerdy and talented audio-visual types bring their tools of choice (laptops, mixers, cameras, lasers) and improvise live sound and video together.
I VJ around Melbourne a little bit too and have been playing with Uber
Lingua, an excellent mob who champion cross-cultural mish mashes.
What do you love?Things that make me wonder, things that make me happy, things I find
beautiful and things that make me laugh. In no particular order:
riding my bicycle through the streets; Copenhagen and watching all the
beautiful young things ride THEIR bikes through the streets; the films
of Wes Anderson; pretty much anything written by Paul Auster; New York
and $1.50 pizza slices; elderflower cordial mixed with white wine;
Morvern Callar is depressing and gorgeous and I LOVE Samantha Morten;
seeing a live gig that gives you shivers it's that good; my friends; traveling; Lindt Chilli
Chocolate; my fella; Triple R radio here in Melbourne; editing footage
and seeing something strange and familiar take shape; art that is
fearless; living in Brunswick.
